The Trustees are looking to recruit to the posts of Level 1 Teaching Assistant

Hollinwood Academy, Oldham

Fixed Term for 12 months

NJC scale point 3 - £24,796 per annum (full time equivalent)

Actual salary pro rata - £20,663 per annum

SEN allowance - £1,539 per annum

Commencing September 2026

Part of the New Bridge Multi Academy Trust, Hollinwood Academy provides a broad and balanced curriculum that enables children and young people from reception to Key Stage 4 to access creative learning opportunities tailored to meet their individual needs. Our children and young people have a diagnosis of autism and/or social and communication difficulties.

We have worked hard to continue to be at the forefront of successful, innovative curriculum design, with overall breadth and balance, which provides our children and young with their full entitlement. As a result, our students benefit from excellent opportunities in all aspects of our curriculum to achieve and improve their academic achievement, social skills, communication skills, knowledge, understanding, well-being and physical development.

Due to the complex nature of our students, high levels of emotional and physical resilience are needed in dealing with challenging behaviour. However, the knowledge that our work is making a positive impact in helping the young people to grow and work towards independence brings great reward.

Applicants should be able to demonstrate how they meet the following essential criteria:

• Previous experience of working with young people of primary/secondary school age who may present with challenging behaviour and complex needs, preferably within an educational setting
• A nurturing and empathetic approach to behaviour management
• The physical and emotional resilience to support students with complex needs, taking a non-judgemental approach
• The ability to support teaching and learning within a special needs setting to a dedicated group of students
• The ability to support the class teacher to monitor student progress, ensuring their improved engagement with the school and their learning
• The ability to record student progress and provide regular feedback to stakeholders.
• The ability to model and encourage appropriate social behaviour in and out of school and to cater for the general welfare of students.
• The ability to work in partnership with classroom teachers to differentiate appropriate interventions for students in relation to the curriculum
• The ability to work as part of a team using own initiative when needed
• Willingness to participate in own professional development

This post will be subject to a number of pre-employment checks including an enhanced DBS check, satisfactory references and proof of right to work in the UK in accordance with the Asylum and Immigration Act 1996. Salary: NJC scale point 3 - £25,614 per annum (full time equivalent)

Actual salary pro rata: £21,907 per annum

Allowance: SEN - £1,590 per annum

Contracted hours: 36 hours 40 minutes per week / Term Time only (190 days per year)

Status: Fixed Term to 31 August 2027

Based: initially at Hollinwood Academy, Roman Road, Hollinwood, Oldham, OL83PT
