Blackpool Council is seeking a compassionate, reliable, and effective communicator to join our Independent Travel Training Team as a Travel Support Assistant. We are looking for a dedicated individual to support students with additional needs who attend mainstream, special schools or college on their journey between community bus stops and their educational settings. As a Travel Support Assistant, you will work as part of a wider team to ensure each student’s safety and wellbeing while travelling. You will help them develop confidence, independence, and essential life skills, offering a calm and friendly presence that provides reassurance and encouragement as they navigate public transport. This support is crucial in promoting independence, positive behaviour, and safe travel throughout their journeys. We’re looking for someone caring, approachable, and confident in supporting young people in a variety of situations. Strong communication skills are essential, as you will be expected to liaise effectively with teaching staff, parents, and colleagues to ensure consistent, high-quality support for each student. If you’re patient, dependable, and passionate about helping young people thrive, we’d love to hear from you. Key responsibilities The successful candidate will complete the Passenger Assistant Training course delivered by the Integrated Transport Team and will be required to complete any further training identified for the role and as part of the induction stage. Hours available for this position are 20 hours per week, on a term time only basis. Hours will generally be worked over a split shift with an outgoing journey in the mornings and a return journey in the afternoons.
