The Technical team is managed by the Technical Coordinator and sits within the Conservation and Collections Care team of Manchester City Galleries. Manchester City Galleries is part of the Libraries, Galleries and Culture Service within Manchester City Council’s Neighbourhoods Directorate. We operate across two public venues—Manchester Art Gallery and Platt Hall as well as Queens Park Conservation Studios for collections care, conservation, and storage.
In addition to installation and collections work, you will maintain tools, equipment and workshop spaces in line with strict health, safety and security procedures. You will collaborate closely with colleagues across Manchester City Galleries, including specialist conservators, curators, learning and engagement teams, collections management, operations and visitor engagement. The role requires someone who enjoys hands-on work, problem solving, creative technical thinking, and the variety that comes with supporting a busy and evolving visual arts organisation.
The technical team plays a vital role in delivering high quality exhibitions, displays and public programmes across the organisation. Our technicians design and install bespoke display solutions, safely handle and transport artworks, construct mounts, plinths and specialist packing cases, and support ongoing collection moves and storage improvements as part of our current capital development work.
