About the Role

We are seeking to appoint a passionate, experienced and committed SENDCo, LAC and Inclusion Lead who will also take part time responsibility for a class within our one-form-entry Catholic primary school (Key Stage to be agreed dependent upon successful candidate and experience). This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced teacher who is dedicated to ensuring that every child, particularly those with additional needs or vulnerabilities, is supported to thrive academically, socially and spiritually.

The successful candidate will play a key strategic role in leading inclusion across the school, supporting pupils with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), looked-after and previously looked-after children (LAC/PLAC), and ensuring high-quality provision for all learners.

As a class teacher, the successful candidate will deliver excellent teaching and learning while modelling inclusive practice across the school.


Key Responsibilities

SENDCo Leadership

  • Lead and manage the school’s provision for pupils with SEND in line with statutory requirements and be a committed member of the school’s Senior Leadership Team.
  • Coordinate the identification, assessment and support for pupils with additional needs following the school’s SEND policy.
  • Maintain and monitor the SEND register and costed provision mapping.
  • Coordinate and lead Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) applications and annual reviews.
  • Work collaboratively with external professionals including educational psychologists, therapists and local authority services.
  • Provide guidance, training and support to staff to ensure effective inclusive practice in classrooms.

Looked After Children (LAC) and Previously Looked After Children (PLAC)

  • Act as the Designated Teacher for looked-after and previously looked-after pupils.
  • Liaise with suitable agencies/authorities to ensure appropriate support.
  • Lead and monitor Personal Education Plans (PEPs).
  • Ensure effective use of Pupil Premium Plus to support pupils’ progress and wellbeing.

Inclusion Leadership

  • Promote an inclusive ethos across the school where every child is valued in line with our mission statement and lived experience- ‘We believe that all people matter.’
  • Monitor the progress and attainment of vulnerable groups.
  • Support staff in implementing strategies to remove barriers to learning.
  • Contribute to whole-school improvement planning in relation to SEND and inclusion.
  • Lead targeted interventions and evaluate their impact.

Class Teacher Responsibilities

  • A part time teaching commitment to a class.
  • Plan and deliver high-quality teaching that meets the needs of all learners.
  • Create a nurturing and engaging classroom environment where pupils feel safe and valued.
  • Assess, monitor and report on pupils’ progress.
  • Work collaboratively with teaching assistants and support staff to support learning and inclusion.
  • Maintain high expectations of behaviour, achievement and participation.

Partnership with Families and Community

  • Build strong partnerships with parents and carers.
  • Work with external agencies to support pupils’ needs.
  • Contribute positively to the Catholic life and mission of the school and its community.

Catholic Ethos

  • Support and actively promote the Catholic ethos and values of the school.
  • Contribute to the spiritual life of the school community.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to the mission and values of Catholic education.

  • Has full QTS and Nasenco or NPQSEND qualification.
  • Has recent experience of the role of a SENDCO and a strong track record of improving provision and outcomes for pupils with SEND.
  • Is committed to inclusive education and high expectations for all pupils.
  • Has experience supporting pupils with SEND and vulnerable learners.
  • Has strong organisational and leadership skills.
  • Can build positive relationships with pupils, families and colleagues.
  • Is committed to supporting the Catholic ethos of the school.
