Highfields College is an established, forward-thinking Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) serving the young people of Stockport. We provide a supportive, trauma-informed, and academically rigorous environment for students who have been excluded from mainstream education or who are at risk of exclusion. About the Role

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, resilient, and highly motivated Intervention Teacher to join our committed team. In this highly rewarding role, you will play a crucial part in bridging the educational gaps of our students, many of whom arrive with fragmented learning histories, SEND and Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

You will be responsible for planning and delivering high-quality, targeted interventions to small groups and on a one-to-one basis. Crucially, this role also encompasses highly impactful outreach work. You may be required to work alongside our attendance team, undertaking joint home visits to build vital relationships with some of our most disengaged learners. Once a connection is established, you will work with support from our Subject Leads in Maths, English, and Science to plan an appropriate pathway of study. You will then deliver this bespoke curriculum on a 1-to-1 basis at designated community meeting points, such as a local library.

Working closely with subject teachers, the SENDCo, and pastoral staff, you will track progress, adapt teaching strategies, and foster an environment where students feel safe to learn and make mistakes. Furthermore, the successful candidate must be willing and confident enough to attend multi-agency meetings to report back on the progress of this outreach work.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design and deliver bespoke, high-impact intervention sessions for students requiring additional academic or SEMH support, both on-site and out in the community.
• Work alongside the attendance team to conduct joint home visits, fostering trust and positive relationships with hard-to-reach students and their families.
• Deliver tailored 1-to-1 study pathways across core subjects at designated off-site meeting points (e.g., local libraries), utilizing planning and high-quality resources provided by our Subject Leads.
• Attend and confidently contribute to multi-agency meetings, reporting on student engagement, barriers to learning, and academic progress.
• Assess, record, and report on the development, progress, and attainment of students in your care.
• Employ a trauma-informed approach to classroom and community-based management, utilizing de-escalation techniques and positive behaviour reinforcement.

About You

Working in a PRU requires a specific type of practitioner. You do not necessarily need previous PRU experience, but you must possess a genuine passion for inclusive education and a deep-seated belief that every child deserves a second chance. Being able to work with challenging behaviour in an assertive yet compassionate and patient way
is vital.

We are looking for someone who:

• Holds Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) at Primary or Secondary level with a subject specialism ideally in English or Maths. By subject specialism, we mean substantial experience in teaching at least one of these subjects.
• Has the adaptability and willingness to step outside the comfort zone of their primary subject area. You must possess the core teaching skills and growth mindset required to teach across English, Maths, and Science depending on individual student referral needs (full planning, schemes of work, and resources will be provided by our Subject Leads).
• Has experience in, or a strong desire to deliver, targeted interventions and outreach work that accelerates progress for vulnerable learners.
• Possesses an understanding of SEMH needs, neurodiversity, and the impact of trauma on child development.
• Is resilient, emotionally intelligent, and maintains a calm, positive demeanour under pressure or when working off-site.
• Has exceptional communication skillsvital for building rapport with our young people, liaising with multi-agency professionals, and working harmoniously within our team.
