About us

Route 29 is inspired by the pioneering No Wrong Door approach, bringing together specialist services to provide integrated, trauma informed support for some of Salford's most vulnerable children, young people and families.

Our vision is simple: to ensure that every child receives the right support, at the right time, from people who understand their experiences and are committed to helping them thrive. We currently work with children and young people aged 8-18 who are on the edge of care, in care, or at risk of placement breakdown, delivering intensive intervention that improves stability, strengthens relationships and creates better futures.

As Route 29 continues to evolve, we are expanding our prevention and residential offer through the development of an innovative new children's home. This service will provide short-term stabilisation placements for children and young people experiencing crisis, offering a safe, nurturing and therapeutic environment where they can recover, rebuild and plan for their next steps.

The home will be designed to support children and young people who may:

  • Require a period of assessment and stabilisation before returning to family care.
  • Need short term residential support while awaiting a longer term placement.
  • Be experiencing emotional or mental health difficulties that require intensive therapeutic intervention but do not meet Tier 4 admission criteria.
  • Be preparing to move into semi-independent living.
  • Be stepping down from higher levels of care, including solo placements or residential settings, into foster care or larger family style homes.

This is an exciting stage in the journey. The property has been identified, and we are now seeking an exceptional Registered Manager to lead the development, registration and opening of this new home.

You won't be building this service alone. As Route 29 continues to grow, you will be supported by an expanding team of dedicated specialists, creating a truly collaborative model that combines residential care, therapeutic intervention and education expertise to achieve the best possible outcomes for children and young people. This will include:

  • Senior CAMHS Practitioners/ Psychologist
  • Educational Psychologist
  • Speech and Language Therapist
  • Occupational Therapist

You will also work closely with our established Edge of Care and Outreach services, as well as our existing residential provision, ensuring children experience seamless support and positive transitions.

This is more than an opportunity to manage a home. It is an opportunity to shape a service from the very beginning, influence its culture and practice, and create meaningful change in the lives of children and young people across Salford.

About the Role

This is a rare and exciting opportunity to lead the creation and development of a brand-new children's home within Route 29's innovative and growing service.

As Registered Manager, you will play a pivotal role from day one, leading the home's registration, development and opening while establishing a culture of high aspirations, therapeutic care and outstanding practice. You will have the unique opportunity to shape every aspect of the service, from recruitment and team development to creating systems, processes and a nurturing environment where children can feel safe, supported and understood.

The home will provide up to three short term stabilisation placements for children and young people experiencing crisis. Working alongside our specialist multi-disciplinary team, you will ensure children receive high quality, trauma informed care that helps them build resilience, achieve stability and move successfully to their next stage, whether that is returning home, moving to foster care or transitioning to longer-term support.

As the home's Registered Manager, you will:

  • Lead the development, registration and successful opening of the service.
  • Create and embed a strong therapeutic, trauma informed culture and practice framework.
  • Recruit, develop and inspire a high performing staff team.
  • Ensure the home consistently achieves the highest standards of care, safeguarding and regulatory compliance.
  • Drive continuous improvement through effective quality assurance, performance monitoring and reflective practice.
  • Build strong relationships with children, families, social workers and partner agencies to ensure joined up planning and decision making.
  • Oversee admissions, risk management, care planning and successful transitions for children and young people.
  • Manage budgets and resources effectively while maintaining outstanding outcomes.
  • Champion innovation and contribute to the ongoing development of Route 29's residential services.

This is a transformational leadership role for someone who is passionate about improving outcomes for children and young people and who is excited by the opportunity to help build a new service from the ground up.

The salary includes a +2 allowance in recognition of regular evening and weekend working

  • A thorough understanding of children's home regulations, quality standards and Ofsted expectations.

Above all, you will share our values of Pride, Passion, People and Personal Responsibility. You will be motivated by the opportunity to create a home where children feel a sense of belonging, where staff are empowered to do their best work, and where every young person is given the support, stability and opportunities they need to achieve their potential.

Applying Authentically With AI: Our Greater Manchester Approach

Across Greater Manchester’s local authorities, we want to hear your genuine experiences, skills and motivations, expressed in your own words.

To keep our recruitment process fair and inclusive, please complete your application personally and follow the instructions carefully. AI can be used to support you - for example, to help structure your answers or as a reasonable adjustment - but your application should still reflect your authentic voice.

Applications that depend too heavily on AI‑generated content may not progress to shortlisting.

This guidance outlines acceptable and unacceptable uses of AI, along with suggestions for using it in a way that supports you while keeping your application true to you.

  1. What Is AI and How Do We Use It Across Greater Manchester?

AI refers to technology that can create or refine content, such as text, ideas, summaries, or planning. It can help improve productivity, problem-solving, and creativity.

We’re open to using innovative digital tools where they can help us work smarter and deliver better services for our residents. However, every use of AI is carefully considered to make sure it is ethical, responsible, and aligned with public-sector values.

When it comes to recruitment, we take a human-centred approach.

    This means:

    • A trained hiring manager reads every application

    • Shortlisting is based on objective criteria required for the job

    • Interviews are conducted in person or via teams by the hiring manager for the role

    • All hiring decisions are made by hiring managers, not algorithms

AI does not make decisions in our recruitment process and our managers are being upskilled to spot AI in applications, particularly when this might have been used in a way that doesn’t feel genuine. If something in an application raises a question or concern, we will test this out with assessments or at the interview stage to confirm authenticity.

Our aim isn’t to catch anyone out but to make sure we’re getting to know the real you, giving every candidate a fair chance and finding the right person for the role.

  2. Using AI in Your Application

When it comes to job applications, what matters most to us is you. We want to see your personality, your experience, and what excites you about joining our team.

We recognise that AI can be a helpful tool to support accessibility during the application process. If you choose to use AI for support, please read the instructions carefully and make sure your application is written in your own words, reflecting your genuine skills, knowledge, experience and enthusiasm.

We’re looking forward to hearing your story.

  3. How to use AI Effectively and Responsibly

Your application is your chance to show us:

    • Who you are

    • What you can bring

    • The values you hold

    • Why you want to make a difference

AI can help you organise your thoughts or improve clarity but it cannot express your unique voice, experiences, or motivations.

AI is most helpful when used to:

    • Help you structure the information you are providing to evidence the criteria

    • Give examples of how to use STAR (Situation, Task, Action, Result)

    • Proof-read to highlight grammar or spelling errors

    • Provide inspiration if you're finding it difficult to find the right words to explain something

But remember: your honesty, lived experience, and motivations are irreplaceable.

  4. Do’s and Don’ts for Using AI in the Recruitment Process

    Do:

    • Use AI as a supportive tool, not a replacement

    • Ask AI to help tidy up your writing or clarify structure

    • Use it to brainstorm examples, then rewrite them in your own voice

    • Reflect on AI suggestions and adapt them to match your experience

    • Use AI to help with research, but express your understanding yourself

    Don’t:

    • Copy and paste AI-generated content directly into your application

    • Let AI exaggerate or invent experience you do not have

    • Rely on generic statements that don’t reflect the specific role requirements

    • Remove your individuality, we want to hear your voice

Stay Safe When Applying

To protect yourself from recruitment scams, please only apply for roles through the official greater.jobs website and associated recruitment systems. We will never ask for your personal information outside of this process.
